Some of you were probably paying more attention than others during your GCSE English classes. For those who's memory is a little hazy, here is a recap of the characters and plot themes contained in William Shakespeare's 1594 comedy play, A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Characters:

PUCK - mischievous sprite who plays tricks on everyone
HERMIA - daughter of Duke of Athens, caught between two men. She is tying to escape a forced marriage to be with the man she loves, so elopes and runs away with him into the forest, to avoid either honour killing or life in a nunnery
HELENA - best friend of Hermia, who is heartbroken and low in self esteem after her boyfriend left her to get engaged to Hermia 
DEMETRIUS - Helena’s ex, who leaves her for Hermia, then goes back to Helena after Puck puts a spell on him with love potion
OBERON - King of the fairies, strong willed and domineering
TITANIA - Queen of the fairies and wife of Oberon. Loyal and independent but strong willed and not afraid to stand up to her difficult husband
HIPPOLYTA - The Queen of the Amazons, a fearsome warrior, very intelligent and loving.
THESEUS - Duke of Athens and fiancé/husband of Hippolyta. A warrior who captured her in battle but is devoted to making her happy and Is known for treating his people fairly.
