We all come from different walks of life and bring different experience and expertise to the team. Some are classically trained dancers, some are pole and exotic dance instructors, some are cabaret and club performers, and some are flexibility and fitness coaches.
What unites us all is the desire to share our passion for pole dance. Performing, watching, and engaging in the shared experience of exotic dance is a powerful way to explore sexuality, strength, athleticism, and artistic talent.
The pole dance industry has evolved greatly over time, and is currently undergoing a huge transformation towards new structures, platforms, and hierarchies (or the abolition thereof), with regards to performance, skillsharing, and working conditions. We aim to play a positive role in that transformation.
As such, the group is not founded on a hierarchical structure; it’s a collaborative and mutually supportive group of dancers who choose to come together to share a passion for the art of pole dance.
We encourage and celebrate a diverse range of performers within pole and exotic dance. We believe this is fundamental to providing audience members with the best experience, and our performers with the best working environment. We are bonded by our similarities, inspired by our differences, and believe that the pole community should be a diverse and inclusive space where all people can exist and flourish equally, to create, connect, and be seen and appreciated for their individual talents, free from social barriers and discrimination based on race, appearance, gender, sexuality, sex worker status, or background.
We respect the history of pole and exotic dance as an art form created and still commanded by strippers and sex workers. We pay homage to those who paved the way for us, and we believe that full decriminalisation of sex work is necessary, to create safe and fair working conditions for those within the industry, and to create an uncensored, unstigmatised and liberated environment for our art form to thrive.
Within the Dragons Tail Dancer Collective, some of us are current or former sex industry professionals and some are not. We have a policy not to disclose our members’ current or former sex worker status.
